Midnight blue kitchen with simple tiles

The Project:

The first project that Katy from Cheshire decided to tackle when she bought her new home was the kitchen, which was the original kitchen from when the property was built 20 years ago. She’d fallen in love with a midnight blue and light grey Shaker style kitchen from Wickes so wanted light coloured tiles that would complement the kitchen without making the overall look of the room too dark. She decided to opt for large format square tiles for the floor in a white/light grey concrete effect design, with simple white wall tiles to provide a clean finish that was in keeping with the style of the kitchen. She removed the room’s only radiator to make way for additional kitchen units, so had underfloor heating installed to keep the kitchen feeling cosy in winter.

The Result:

Katy was delighted with her finished kitchen, saying: “I’m so happy I decided to go with a bold dark blue kitchen. I was worried it might be too dark for the room but the light tiles really finish it off nicely and keep the room feeling bright. The light grey concrete effect design of the floor tiles co-ordinates well with the light grey wall units and gives the kitchen a more contemporary edge. I wasn’t sure whether the extra large floor tiles would be too big for the room, which isn’t particularly huge, but my tiler convinced me they’d look good and he was right. If anything, using bigger tiles has actually made the room look more spacious. The underfloor heating is a great touch too, it feels so luxurious when the floor is warm all year round.”
