Modern family kitchen

The Project:

Sarah and Mark from Leeds wanted to redesign their kitchen to make it more homely and stylish, whilst still being practical for their growing family. As a lover of Pinterest and interiors magazines, Sarah had a pretty clear idea of what she was looking for and wanted to create a contemporary yet timeless look that would complement her new painted Shaker style kitchen. The couple opted for wood effect tiles on the floor and 10x20cm white ceramic tiles to create a splashback between the worktop and wall units.

The Result:

Sarah said: "I love my new kitchen! Although most of our friends thought the old kitchen wasn't actually too bad, it's amazing what a new lease of life this fresh new look has given to our home. The wood effect floor tiles are perfect as they look just like real wood but they're so hard wearing it doesn't matter what we spill on them, which is important with two young children and a cat constantly in and out of the kitchen. I love the simplicity of the white wall tiles. We hadn't thought about using a contrasting grey grout until a friend suggested it, but I'm so glad we did as it gives it a contemporary edge and ties in nicely with the combination of grey and white kitchen units."
